Turns out there is such thing as a free lunch … if you work at Google. Free laundry, too. And a rock climbing wall, in case you overindulged at that free lunch and want to work it off before heading back to your desk.
If it sounds like Google is the place to be then you’re in luck, because they’re hiring. But before you go and fill out your application, you might want to do a little more research, because there are plenty more perks where Google’s came from (and plenty of companies hiring, too) in Fortune’s annual list of “100 Best Companies to Work For.”
Just to give you an overview: Fourteen of the companies on the list pay 100 percent of their employees’ health care benefits. Fifteen of them have never had a layoff. Ever. Forty-two count women as more than half of their workforce. When asked how much they paid the workers who hold the most common job function at the company, 42 said more than $100,000 per year. And perhaps best of all, 25 of the top-100 employers have more than 700 job openings right now, totaling nearly 137,000 jobs.
Here are a few more company facts that stood out.
The Real Housewives of Chesapeake Energy? Employees at the company (No. 32) can go to yoga classes and get spray tans and Botox on-site.
While many companies were still in the midst of layoffs or hiring freezes last year, Boston Consulting Group, ranked No. 2 on the list, hired its largest class of recruits ever.
In addition to never having a layoff, not one of Scottrade’s (No.12) 500 local offices has ever closed, either.
Employees at Camden Property Trust, ranked No. 7, can rent furnished apartments in locations like Orlando and Denver for $20 per night to use on personal vacations.
Eight-six percent of Deloittes’ (No. 63) employees work from home on a regular basis. As do 85 percent of Cisco’s (No. 20).
Publix Supermarket (No. 67) is the largest employee-owned company in the U.S., and is one of the 13 companies that have appeared on the “Best Companies to Work For” list every year.
At law firm Bingham McCutchen (No. 28), 20 percent of the firm’s partners are women, and 7 percent are minorities.
If employees don’t get a bonus, neither does NuStar Energy’s (No. 30) CEO.
Price of gas got you down? Consider applying to Microsoft (No. 72). Its employees can hop on employee shuttles that run multiple routes through the Seattle area. To top it off, the coaches are wi-fi enabled, so employees can catch up on work — or YouTube videos — on the way to office.
